Dormeuil's story began in 1842, when 22-year-old Jules Dormeuil set out to import the finest English cloth into France. His brothers Alfred and Auguste soon joined him, and a family crest featuring three rams' heads was created to represent the three brothers. Trading as Dormeuil Frères, the company established premises in both Paris and London, and within a few decades had earned an international reputation for sourcing the most beautiful raw materials in the world.

Innovation has defined the house ever since. Dormeuil is credited with inventing the woven selvedge in 1927, and over the generations has introduced some of the most celebrated cloths in menswear, including Sportex in the 1920s, the iconic Tonik in 1957 and Amadeus in 1991. In 2006 it launched Vanquish, billed as the most expensive and luxurious fabric in the world, with only 300 suit lengths ever made, and more recently it has pioneered fully traceable cloth using blockchain technology.

Still guided by the Dormeuil family, the house now combines more than 180 years of heritage with the latest textile technology. Its reach extends across the globe, including an office in Australia since 1990, and it continues to work closely with leading names in tailoring and fashion to create sophisticated, forward-thinking collections.
