Gran Sasso was born in 1952, when four brothers, Nello, Eraldo, Alceo and Francesco Di Stefano, began making knitwear in Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata, a small village in Italy's Abruzzo region. Sharing its name with the great mountain massif that rises over the region, the business started out as a modest family workshop, but the brothers had a clear ambition: to create knitwear of genuine quality and elegance, with an easy, sophisticated style all its own.

That vision soon carried Gran Sasso far beyond Abruzzo. By the 1970s the brand had found success across Italy and in international markets, building a reputation that has only grown in the decades since. Today it stands among the leading names in Italian knitwear, yet it remains proudly rooted in the village where it began, with authentic Made in Italy craftsmanship at the heart of everything it does.

For more than seventy years, Gran Sasso has carried forward the great tradition of Italian knitwear, balancing time-honoured technique with innovation. Each garment is made by hand using refined artisanal methods, and the brand works with exceptional yarns, from soft cashmere to fine merino and Super Tasmania wool, to create pieces of lasting quality and quiet sophistication.
